The Rolling Stones was formed in 1962 by the meeting of two old school friends, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and Brian Jones. It was Jones who gave the group its name, after a Muddy Waters song about a roamer, Rollin' Stone.
This is all rock history. Expectations for this European tour are running high, particularly in the light of the band’s highly popular and critically acclaimed North American tour. The “Bigger Bang” world tour began with a breathtaking performance at the Fenway Park Stadium in Boston. The critics were unanimous in their praise, and each leg of the tour since has been characterized by total catharsis and boundless energy. “For the fans this has been the most sensational tour ever,” tour director Michael Cohl said recently. “The band has simply redefined what a pop concert is. What you could do when you were twenty, but can’t now you’re sixty, the Stones still can. And do,” reported the Boston Globe. “The best live rock concert on the planet. At the end of the evening we defy you to find a member of the audience not satisfied,” glowed Billboard magazine. “The remarkable thing about the Rolling Stones is that after forty years they just keep on getting better,” reported the LA Times. The North American tour progressed like a runaway train. After Boston, the adulation simply got bigger and bigger. Fans and critics alike heaped praise on Mick Jagger, calling him the best front man in the world; also on Keith Richards, for his awesome guitar playing; and on Ronnie Wood for his brilliant and intricate guitar playing; and on Charlie Watts for his amazing energy. “These superstars will always be superstars.” Get ready!
